Your Friend Works At Hilton? Here’s What That Rate Gets You

The Go Hilton Team Member program is the deepest employee discount in major hotel loyalty, and it’s one of the few where the friends-and-family side is nearly as generous as the employee side. If you work at Hilton, or you know someone who does, the rates run 50 to 80% off for employees and up to 50% off for friends and family, with enough nightly room over the year (100 total) that this is a real travel benefit, not a small perk.

The program is usually called TMTP (Team Member Travel Program) internally at Hilton. It runs through its own booking portal, not Hilton.com, and the friend-or-family side requires the employee to add you to their Go Hilton account before you can book anything.

There are two rates in the program:

• Hilton Team Member rate for active employees only.
• Hilton Friends and Family rate for approved guests of those employees.

Below is how each one works: who qualifies, what you actually save, how to book, and the caps that catch people off-guard.

Hilton Team Member Rate

The Team Member rate is employee-only and the biggest discount Hilton offers. Active employees get 50 to 80% off published room rates at almost every brand Hilton runs: Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, and LXR at the luxury end, down through Hilton, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, and Hilton Garden Inn.

Employees are capped at 30 room nights per calendar year at this rate. On top of the nightly discount, Team Member bookings include breakfast for two at properties outside the Americas, a 50% food-and-beverage discount on property globally (in restaurants under the hotel’s management), and no resort or destination fees.

Who qualifies

Current Hilton team members (full-time, part-time, and seasonal) qualify, as do owner-club members who own 25% or more of a Hilton property.

There’s a tenure catch worth knowing. Team members with 20 or more years of service keep access to the Team Member rate for life but lose the ability to extend Friends and Family benefits after leaving. Team members with 10 to 20 years of service keep the Friends and Family rate for themselves after exiting but not the deeper Team Member rate.

If none of that applies to you, check whether your employer has a regular Hilton corporate code. Those discounts are smaller but much broader, and plenty of mid-to-large companies have one without advertising it.

What the rate looks like by brand

The discount scales with cash price, so the luxury brands are where the math gets eye-watering. A $900 night at a Waldorf Astoria at 70% off lands around $270. A $180 Hampton Inn at 70% off is $55. Both are deep cuts, but the absolute-dollar savings on the luxury end is why most employees chase those bookings first.

How to book

All Team Member bookings happen on the Go Hilton booking site, not Hilton.com. You log in with your Hilton Honors credentials (the same ones linked to your team member account) and the portal surfaces TMTP, Friends and Family, and EXTRA rate availability per property.

Inside the portal you can book special rates, add friends and family to your account, and track how many of your 100 annual nights you’ve used.

Caps and booking restrictions

Per stay, you can book up to two Team Member rate rooms and two Friends and Family rate rooms, for a maximum of four rooms. Each reservation can run up to seven consecutive nights.

Per calendar year, you get 30 Team Member nights plus 70 Friends and Family nights, for 100 total. The F&F pool is larger because it’s meant to be shared, but both caps reset every January 1.

Tips for finding availability

The discount exists; availability is the real constraint. A few moves that actually help:

• Flexible Dates search: tick the “my dates are flexible” box to get a calendar view per property. Most high-demand Hiltons have TMTP availability somewhere in the month, rarely the exact night you first tried.
• Split the stay: if a single reservation can’t cover your full trip, book two back-to-back reservations with different rate types. Annoying, but it beats paying rack.
• Re-check inside 60 days: hotels release unsold inventory into the Go Hilton pool as dates approach. A property that looked closed two months out often opens up three to four weeks before arrival.

Hilton Friends and Family Rate

If you don’t work at Hilton but you know someone who does, this is the rate for you. Friends and Family is up to 50% off the best available rate on standard rooms. The team member has to add you to their Go Hilton account before you can book anything, and once you’re added, you log in with your own Hilton Honors account and book independently.

Honest callout on the 50% number: in practice it’s more often 30 to 45% off. Full half-price happens, but it isn’t the norm. It’s still the cheapest bookable rate at almost every Hilton property, so the comparison to run is Friends and Family vs. the hotel’s best advertised rate, not vs. a hypothetical half-price dream.

Per stay, Friends and Family can book up to two rooms for up to seven consecutive nights.

Who qualifies

Anyone with a Hilton Honors account (sign up here) who has been authorized by a current Hilton team member registered in TMTP.

The employee adds you by logging into their Go Hilton account and entering your full name and Hilton Honors number exactly as they appear on your Honors account. Any typo or name mismatch and the approval won’t go through.

The EXTRA rate (and why to book it when you see it)

When a Hilton property has surplus rooms it can’t sell, it opens them up inside the Go Hilton portal as an EXTRA rate. The discount is the same as the Friends and Family rate, but EXTRA bookings don’t count toward the team member’s 70-night F&F limit.

Practical rule: if you see EXTRA availability for your dates, always book that over the standard F&F rate. Same price to you, no cost to your team-member friend’s annual cap. EXTRA bookings still earn Hilton Honors points and tier status, same as a paid stay.

How to book

Once the team member has approved you and you’ve signed into the Go Hilton booking site, select your property and look for the Friends and Family rate near the top of the available rate list. If EXTRA is also listed, pick that instead.

Friends and Family applies to standard rooms only. You won’t see suite upgrades or specialty room types at this rate on most properties.

Food and beverage discount

The F&B perk is Team Member only, not Friends and Family. Active employees get breakfast for two at Hilton properties outside the Americas, and a 50% discount on food and beverage globally at on-property restaurants.

One gotcha: the 50% only applies to restaurants operated by the hotel itself. Plenty of hotels lease retail space to third-party restaurants and bars that share the property but aren’t in the discount. Ask at check-in which on-property outlets qualify.

Points, elite status, and upgrades

Go Hilton bookings earn Hilton Honors points and count toward elite status. That matters more than it sounds: a heavy Go Hilton user can ride F&F and EXTRA bookings to Diamond without paying a single rack rate.

Room upgrades are discretionary (same as any Honors stay), but hotels do honor status on Go Hilton reservations. Don’t expect suite upgrades at peak-demand luxury properties on a F&F booking, but at mid-tier brands and in shoulder seasons, upgrades land regularly.

Stacking with a credit card: Hilton Aspire

The Amex Hilton Aspire card gives automatic Diamond status, a $250 Hilton resort credit each cardmember year, and a free-night certificate valid at most Hilton properties worldwide. All three stack with Go Hilton stays in different ways.

Important nuance: Go Hilton rates usually don’t earn points the way a paid Hilton.com rate does, and some on-property credits (resort credit, F&B credit) only trigger on bookings made directly with Hilton. If your goal is to maximize Aspire benefits, put one stretch of your year on paid Hilton.com rates and save Go Hilton for properties where the headline discount outweighs the perks you’d lose.
