One thing that makes the NFL different from other leagues: most teams use a hotel even for home games. Looking at the full list, a few patterns are obvious. NFL teams consistently favor top tier luxury brands like Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, and JW Marriott. These hotels have to clear a long list of requirements before a team will book a block, including:
- 130 to 180 rooms minimum to fit players, coaches, and staff
- At least 10,000 square feet of meeting space for team meetings and walk throughs
- Full service kitchens that can feed 100 plus people on a tight schedule
- State of the art fitness facilities
- Enhanced security and privacy
- Reasonable proximity to the stadium, though not always the closest option
Unlike the NBA, NFL teams also commonly use a hotel even for home games, keeping players together the night before to lock in focus and team unity. That’s part of why the home team and visiting team often end up at the same downtown property over the course of a season.
We posted this list because it’s interesting to see where some of the wealthiest sports teams in the world choose to stay when they’re in your city. We don’t recommend staking out any of these places just to get a glimpse, you may leave disappointed.
