Marriott Bonvoy is the largest hotel loyalty program in the world, with 30 brands and over 7,000 properties. It’s also the chain with the deepest corporate rate ecosystem, which is what I want to get into here. If you work for a mid-size or large company, there’s a very good chance Marriott has a negotiated rate waiting for you, and most people never use it.
On the stays where a corporate rate does apply, I typically see 10-25% off the flexible public rate, sometimes 30%+ at the top-tier companies. The rate also unlocks free wifi, free breakfast at some properties, and the part I actually care about most: cancellation up to 24 hours before check-in, even on bookings made months out.
Corporate rates are not automatically the cheapest option. I’ll walk through the full booking flow, what to compare them against, and the specifics of how Marriott handles ID checks (which is different from Hilton and IHG).
Find Your Company’s Marriott Corporate Code
Most companies don’t publicize their corporate codes internally. If you book through a travel portal (Concur, Egencia, SAP), the code is baked in and you never see it, which is why so many people don’t realize they have access to one. Check the table below first. If your company is listed, try the code directly on Marriott.com.
These codes are only for eligible employees, contractors, or affiliates of the listed organizations. Marriott checks for a valid company ID at check-in, and if you can’t produce one, they’ll walk the rate up to the standard price. Don’t use a code you aren’t entitled to.

Many companies have more than one code assigned. Try all the ones listed for your organization, because some will pull lower rates than others depending on the property and the date. Marriott doesn’t give a clean reason why one code beats another, but in practice I’ve seen 5-15% differences between two codes at the exact same hotel.
How To Enter A Corporate Code On Marriott.com
Marriott’s search bar hides the corporate rate field by default. On the homepage search bar, click “Special Rates” to expand the options.

Inside the panel you’ll see a field labeled “Corporate / Promo / SET#”. Drop your code in exactly as it appears. These codes are case-sensitive in some cases, so match the formatting exactly.

Click “Find Hotels” and the search results will filter to properties honoring that code.
Reading The Search Results
Marriott shows the corporate rate directly on the search results page. A few things to look for:

- “Rate Unavailable”: this hotel has a corporate rate for your company, but not on the specific dates you searched. Try adjacent dates if the trip is flexible.
- Hotel missing from results entirely: this hotel doesn’t participate in your company’s program at all. You’ll need to book a standard rate or choose a different Marriott property.
- A visible rate: this is the corporate rate for those dates. Always compare it to the flexible public rate and the advance purchase rate before booking (more below).
Always Compare Against Other Rates
Corporate rates are classified as “Special Rates” in Marriott’s system, and they’re not guaranteed to be the lowest price on the property. Hotels often run their own promotions that undercut the corporate rate, especially at resort and leisure properties. Always run the search both with and without your corporate code, and compare side by side.

The prepaid/advance purchase rate on the right column is usually the cheapest rate on any Marriott property, often 10-20% below the corporate rate. The trade-off is it’s non-refundable. For a locked-in trip I’ll take the advance purchase rate. For anything that could shift, I take the corporate rate for the cancellation flexibility.
Check The Rate Details Before Booking
The headline nightly rate is only part of the picture. Click “Rate Details” on the room type to see what’s actually included in your specific corporate rate at that specific property.

Common perks bundled with a Marriott corporate rate:
- Free wifi. Almost always included, and often upgraded to premium tier at properties that still differentiate.
- Free breakfast. Included at a significant portion of corporate contracts but not all. Look for it in the rate details before assuming.
- Late cancellation window. Most Marriott corporate rates let you cancel up to 24 hours before check-in, sometimes as late as 6 PM day of arrival. This is genuinely the best part of the rate.
- Flexible changes. Dates can usually be adjusted without penalty as long as you’re still within the cancellation window.
Exact terms vary by property because each Marriott-owned or franchise hotel negotiates its own contract. The Ritz-Carlton in Tokyo and the Fairfield Inn in Tulsa are not running the same deal, even if they share a code.
The ID Check At Marriott Check-In
Marriott’s official policy is that the front desk must verify your corporate eligibility at check-in. In practice, this varies wildly because most Marriotts are franchise-operated. In my experience it happens 70-80% of the time at Marriott-branded properties, closer to 50% at the lower-tier brands like Fairfield and Courtyard, and much higher at luxury properties like Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis where revenue management is tighter.
Acceptable proof:
- A company badge or pass with your photo and company name.
- A business card with your name and company (the most common form of ID that gets accepted).
- An email from a company domain. Some front desks will send a test email to verify you can receive it at the company email address.
If you show up with nothing, the hotel is within its rights to bump you to the standard rate. I’d never count on getting away without ID at a full-service Marriott or luxury brand. Always carry something that ties you to the company.
Points, Status, And Elite Benefits On Corporate Rates
This is the question I get asked most: do corporate rates earn points and count toward status? The short answer is yes to both, with almost no exceptions.
- Bonvoy points: corporate rates earn points at the full rate (10x per dollar spent, plus your elite bonus).
- Elite night credit: each night on a corporate rate counts toward your annual elite status threshold.
- Elite benefits at check-in: full upgrade, breakfast, and late checkout benefits apply based on your status, not the rate you booked.
- Suite Night Awards and Choice Benefits: also valid on corporate bookings.
This is a major reason I default to Marriott corporate over F&F-type rates when my company has a good contract. F&F rates at Marriott (Explore) strip elite benefits. Corporate keeps them.
Who’s Eligible To Use A Marriott Corporate Rate
Eligibility is set by the company, not Marriott. The standard rule: full-time employees are clearly eligible, contractors and consultants usually are as long as their ID reflects the company, and former employees are not (even if you still have an old business card).
Corporate rates are also technically for business travel, not leisure. Nobody at the front desk will ask why you’re there, but Marriott’s system can flag bookings that are obviously off-pattern (all-inclusive resort, peak vacation week, group of non-employees). The rate is more likely to get honored without issue if the trip looks business-like.
If you’re unsure whether your status at a company qualifies, ask your company’s travel ops or HR team before booking a long trip. Getting walked up to standard rate on a week-long stay in Manhattan is an expensive way to find out.
Which Companies Get The Deepest Marriott Discounts
Corporate rates scale directly with how many room nights a company books annually. The companies at the top of the Marriott discount ladder are the ones you’d expect: global consulting firms, big banks, and big tech. Names like Deloitte, IBM, Accenture, and AT&T routinely hit the 30%+ discount tier with broad property coverage.
Mid-size companies typically land in the 10-20% range with coverage at major-city properties only. If you work for a smaller company, your code may only work at a handful of hotels in cities where you’ve historically stayed, and the discount may be modest. Still worth checking, and still usually the most flexible rate you can book.
AAA, CAA, And Senior Rates At Marriott
If you don’t have a corporate code, Marriott offers a few other discounted rates that anyone can access:
- AAA / CAA: typically around 5% off the base rate. Minor savings, but the rate itself is usually refundable and at leisure properties it sometimes beats the corporate rate.
- Senior rate: 15% off the base rate for travelers 62 and older. Marriott checks for ID at check-in.
- AARP: sometimes runs concurrent promotional rates at Marriott brands. Worth checking on longer stays.
Check Marriott’s Special Rates menu at the top of the search bar for these. They show up as separate options alongside the corporate rate field.
Marriott Explore Rate (Friends And Family)
If you know a Marriott employee personally, the Explore program is usually a better deal than any corporate rate. It comes in two tiers:
- Marriott Explore Rate (Code: MMP): the employee rate, extremely low nightly rates at participating properties.
- Marriott Explore Friends Rate (Code: MMF): the friends and family rate, typically 50% off the base rate at luxury brands, less at limited-service.
The trade-off: Explore rates don’t earn points and don’t count toward elite status. Elite benefits like upgrades are at the hotel’s discretion and usually not extended. For a luxury property where the savings are large, Explore wins. For a business hotel where you’d otherwise get breakfast and an upgrade as a Platinum, corporate is often the better math. Full breakdown in the Marriott Explore guide.
Travel Agent Rates: STARS And Luminous
For luxury travel, Marriott runs two travel-advisor programs that can beat every rate above in terms of on-property perks. Booking through a travel agent who’s a member of either program gets you a package of benefits that’s worth real money at a 3-4 night luxury stay.
Marriott STARS (ultra-luxury brands)
Participating brands: EDITION, BVLGARI, Luxury Collection, Ritz-Carlton, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, St. Regis. Benefits include:
- Complimentary daily breakfast for up to two people
- $100 USD hotel credit once per stay
- Room upgrade subject to availability at check-in
- Complimentary basic wifi
- In-person welcome and personalized amenity
Marriott Luminous (upper-upscale brands)
Participating brands: Autograph Collection, JW Marriott, Marriott, Le Meridien, Renaissance, Tribute Portfolio, W Hotels, Westin. Benefits include:
- Complimentary daily breakfast for two
- Complimentary basic wifi
- Early check-in and late check-out subject to availability
- Complimentary room upgrade subject to availability
- Local welcome amenity
- $100 USD hotel credit at select properties
STARS and Luminous benefits overlap with Marriott Platinum and Titanium benefits. If you’re already elite at those tiers, the incremental value is the $100 hotel credit, the confirmed breakfast (vs. lounge access), and the personalized welcome. Worth it on luxury stays even when you have status.
Corporate Rate Availability By Location
Corporate rate coverage skews heavily toward major business cities. Marriotts in New York, London, Tokyo, San Francisco, Chicago, and similar markets have the highest participation and the deepest discounts. Properties in leisure-heavy markets (Rome mixes both, but Cancun, Maui, Caribbean, etc.) are much more selective, and often don’t honor corporate rates at all during peak season.
When coverage is thin, you’ll often find the corporate rate works at business-focused brands (Courtyard, Residence Inn, Springhill Suites) but not at adjacent resort properties under the same Marriott umbrella.
Negotiating A Marriott Corporate Rate For Your Company
If your company doesn’t have a Marriott corporate rate and you travel enough to care, you can negotiate one. The process happens at the individual property level, not with Marriott corporate HQ, so you’re emailing general managers or sales directors at the specific hotels where you stay.
The pitch is simple: your company is, say, 30 nights a year at their property, and you’d like to set up a preferred rate. The hotel sends an RFP, you fill in company details and projected volume, and if the numbers work they issue a code. Expect to need at least 20 nights a year at a single property to get serious attention at a major-market Marriott, and more at luxury brands.
Full walkthrough in the negotiating corporate hotel rates guide.
Corporate Codes At Other Hotel Groups
Most major chains run parallel programs. If your company has a Marriott rate, it often has rates at other groups too. Worth checking:
- Hilton Corporate Codes
- IHG Corporate Codes
- Hyatt Corporate Codes
- Best Western Corporate Codes
- Full hotel corporate codes list
Takeaways
- If your company is on the table above, try the code on Marriott.com before doing anything else.
- Always compare the corporate rate to the advance purchase rate and any active Special Offer. Corporate isn’t always lowest.
- The 24-hour cancellation window is often worth more than the discount itself on a flexible trip.
- Bring a business card or company ID to check-in. Marriott checks more aggressively than most other chains.
- Corporate rates earn points and elite night credit. Explore rates don’t.
- For luxury stays, STARS or Luminous through a travel agent usually beats any rate you can book yourself.

Hi! Today I was given these codes that are not on the list. The first one is 87a which is for AHC hospitality (Amway) and the second one is New York City Transit Authority with the code Nyo. I don’t know if that is helpful or not. And there is another one really popular that people always ask with is the r2a for Retirement systems of Alabama.

Assuming you have been given the authorization form the code you are looking for will be “MMP” or “MMF”. Can see more details here – travelseason.com/hotels/marriotts-explore-…

How do we find out which rates do and do not qualify for elite nights and other elite perks?
Rohan LalaAuthor
Generally almost all rates now qualify for nights and points (including the employee rate and the friends and family). The official list of rates that don’t qualify include rooms booked through a tour operator, online travel channel, a third-party channel, wholesaler, or crew room rate. Hope this helps!
Andrea
hey, where’s the list??
